The '60s generation grew up not only in the shadow of the bomb but also in an environment of common experiences. Television provided a collective memory, and shared music seemed to bind the era together in a special way. The Doors were a distillation of their time. The music they made was raw yet poetic, angry yet seductive. The stage show at its best was dramatic, brilliant theatre- artistic expression transcending all form. Jim's Morrison's sensual stage presence, charged, spoke to young audiences' fantasies and become a catalyst for an era.
Their songs have kept the Doors in the rare pantheon of groups whose music evokes the memory of the turbulent '60s. Like his contemporaries, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, Morrison was too intensive to remove his flamboyant persona after a performance was over; so art, music, poetry and life become one, not only to Morrison himself but to those who reported and contributed to his legend throughout the world. |
